The Blue Mountain Bucks earned their first win of the season in shutout fashion as they took care of a short-handed Concord squad, 2-0.
The Wildcats, who battled with just 10 players, fell behind early when Nicole Larocque found the back of the net off of a pass from Jordan Farquharson. But Concord continued to battle.
“They played their hearts out,” Concord coach Matt Link said. And similar words were echoed by BMU coach Steve Peck. “I am very proud of the Concord squad.”
The Concord defense gave the Bucks fits for the remainder of the first half and most of the second half. The Bucks had a few opportunities but the speed of Kelsi Despins and the goal play by Kasey DeGreenia kept the score at 1-0. “She played very well back there,” coach Link said of Despins while adding that his goalie, DeGreenia, has been very solid for us.
DeGreenia turned down an Aimee Thompson shot with 15 minutes to play but that wouldn't be the only pressure from Thompson, who turned it up a notch down the stretch and started peppering shots towards DeGreenia. She finally cashed in with just under two minutes to play in the contest when she took a pass from Emily Russo and slipped it low and hard to the far post past DeGreenia, upping the score to 2-0.

The never-quit attitude of the Wildcats continued, however, and they earned several opportunities down the stretch including a pair of corners in the final minute but they were unable to get one past BMU netminder Torie Peters who earned the shutout.
“They made us work,” coach Peck said. “We got a clean sheet. It is hard in soccer to get a shutout and we did that. From back to front we did a pretty nice job.”
The win improves BMU to 1-2. They return to action Thursday at Twinfield.
