Football: Ding Earns All-American Status

NORTHFIELD –Norwich University senior place-kicker Long Ding (Qing Dao, China) was recognized by D3football.com Dec. 16.

Ding was tabbed a D3football.com third team All-American. The two-time Eastern Collegiate Football Conference Special Teams’ Player of the Year also gained all-New England Football Writers Association and D3football.com all-region accolades along with the October Fred Mitchell Award recognition and a spot on the Division III Football Senior Classic North team roster.

He concluded his Cadets' career by successfully converting 11 consecutive field goals and 14 extra points in a row to help guide the Maroon and Gold to the ECFC championship and the program’s first NCAA Division III playoff berth.  Ding ended the 2011 season as the Maroon and Gold's leading scorer (73 points) and was the ECFC leader in made field goals and FG and extra point accuracy as well as ranking in the top 20 of Division III in field goals per game. Ding, in only two seasons at NU, ranked in the top three in career points, field goals and extra points and was one of three Cadets' place-kickers to hit three field goals in one game.
