NORTHFIELD – It all went the way of Norwich University from the opening tip-off on Dec. 8.
The Cadets, moving to 3-6, hit a lay-up after the tip and were off the races against Southern Vermont (2-5). NU scored 23 of the game’s first 32 points and didn’t look back en route to a 102-46 victory inside Andrews Gymnasium.
The story of the night for the Maroon and Gold was a balanced scoring attack with 11 players getting into the scoring column and a 56-28 advantage on the glass. Freshman guard Kelsey Lotti (South Yarmouth, Mass.) topped the Cadets in scoring, canning eight three-pointers during a career-high 28-point night. Fellow freshman guard Aliah Curry (Windsor, Mass.) added 20 points and tossed in four treys. Another guard, sophomore Kristin Brown (Williamstown, Vt.), narrowly missed a double-double, totaling nine points to go with 13 assists and four steals. Freshman post player Katrina Laidlaw (Dunblaine, Scotland) guided the big margin on the boards with eight rebounds.
Senior guard Sherrita Hall got into double figures for the Mountaineers. She tallied 12 points.
Norwich concludes a season-best five-game home stand Saturday, Dec. 10, when Wentworth Institute of Technology visits Andrews Gymnasium for a 3 p.m. start.
NOTES – The triple-digit total for the Cadets was the program’s first since the 2004-05 squad put up 121 against Rivier late in the season.
