Seahawks Goaltender Simmons Makes 56 Saves in 1-1 Tie

Newport, RI. -- Salve Regina goaltender Rebecca Simmons made 56 saves, and the 2nd ranked Norwich University Women's Hockey team was forced to settle for a 1-1 ECAC East tie on Saturday evening. Despite pounding away all night the Cadets trailed 1-0 until senior Julie Fortier scored the tying goal at the 9:53 mark of the third period. Norwich outshot Salve 13-2 in the first period, 20-3 in the second, 18-3 in the third and 6-0 in the overtime, but Simmons stole the point for the homestanding Seahawks. Rachel Porter scored the home team goal 44 seconds into the second period.

Now 7-1-1 on the season the Cadets will play host to Plattsburgh State on Wednesday night in a game to be video streamed by NSN Sports.
