JWU Men’s Basketball Cruises To 113-61 Win Over Norwich

Providence, R.I. – The Johnson & Wales University men’s basketball team defeated Norwich by a score of 113-61 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at the Harborside RAC on Saturday afternoon.  Seniors Matt Williams (Mt. Kisco, N.Y.), Santino Conotti (Rochester, N.Y.), Mike Harris (Providence, R.I.), Lamonte Thomas (Providence, R.I.) and James Folk (Lawrence, Mass.) were honored in a ceremony prior to the game.

Thomas led all scorers with 38 points, six rebounds and five assists while Harris added 27 points and five boards in the victory.  Folk was also in double figures with 18 points and three rebounds while junior David Storti (Exeter, R.I.) had eight points and a game-high 12 caroms for the Wildcats.

Senior Antonio Davis (Albany, N.Y.) scored a team-high 14 points with eight rebounds while freshman Evan Tullar (Chelsea, Vt.) had 10 points and three boards in the setback for Norwich.

Johnson & Wales used a barrage of three-pointers early, capped by a long range basket by Thomas to go ahead 28-9 just five minutes into the contest.  The Wildcats hit on 61.9% (13-for-21) of their shots from behind the three-point stripe en route to a 55-34 lead heading into the locker room at halftime.

The Wildcats built on their lead early in the second half and had a 72-42 advantage on a three-pointer by Folk with just under 15 minutes left in the contest.  JWU would then cruise to the 113-61 victory.  The team hit a remarkable 23 of 41 from behind the three point line and shot 56.9% from the field in the win.  The Wildcats also had a 45-28 advantage in rebounds and forced 16 Norwich turnovers.

With the win Johnson & Wales improves to 10-11 overall and 9-5 in league play while Norwich falls to 5-15 on the season and 4-9 in the GNAC.
