AMHERST, Mass. – The No. 1-ranked Norwich women’s ice hockey team lost for the first time since Oct. 29 on Tuesday night with a 2-0 loss at No. 7-ranked Amherst in a non-conference tilt at Orr Rink.
Amherst’s Ellen Swiontkowski scored at the 3:35 mark of the second period and then Tori Salmon added another goal early in the third period to lift the Lord Jeffs to the win.
Norwich (14-2-1, 11-0-1 ECAC East) outshot Amherst 30-26, but the Cadets couldn’t solve Amherst goalie Sinead Murphy, who turned aside every shot she faced from the nation’s top offense to improve to 7-2-0 on the year.
Norwich sophomore goaltender Kelly Fisk (Hannibal, N.Y.) was saddled with her first loss of the season after making 24 saves for the Cadets. She dropped to 9-1-0.
The Cadets will look to rebound on Saturday afternoon when they return to ECAC East play with a matchup against New England College at Kreitzberg Arena at 1 p.m. The game can be seen on NSN Sports starting at 12:45.
