WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass./CRAFTSBURY – Senior Franz Bernstein picked up his first win of the season to lead the UVM Nordic team in the 10K classic races at Craftsbury Center on the second day of the Williams Carnival.
The Catamounts came up just short of winning the carnival as the Dartmouth Nordic squads were able to take first in the overall team standings for each of the men's and women's classic races to help the Big Green hold off the Vermont. Dartmouth finished the carnival with 869.5 points, while UVM was second with 840 points and followed by Middlebury (690 points).
Bernstein earned his seventh career EISA victory with a winning time of 26:29.8, which was 13 seconds better than Gordon Vermeer of Dartmouth.
Fritz Horst finished eighth and Dylan Grald was 13th to round out UVM's top three skiers.
