LYME, N.H./STOWE – The Vermont Catamounts earned their third carnival win on the EISA Circuit with a 162 win over the Dartmouth Big Green at the Dartmouth Carnival. UVM piled up 982 points and was followed by the Big Green with 820 points and New Hampshire with 722 points.
The Catamounts earned a sweep in the women's 15K classic race and the men's slalom, while taking two of the three podium spots in the women's slalom.
The women's 15K classic came down to a photo finish between Vermont teammates Lucy Garrec and Amy Glen. Garrec (47:48.4) was two-tenths of a second better than Glen (47:48.6) to pick up the win. Fellow Catamount Caitlin Patterson finished third at 47:54.8 and teammate Anja Gruber was fifth overall with a time of 48:25.4.
Vermont swept the alpine race for the second straight day. Tim Kelley, the defending NCAA Champion, posted a time of 45.46 in his first run and finished the race with a total time of 1:31.78.
Bobby Farrell was second at 1:31.95 and Jonathan Nordbotten's second run time of 46.01 propelled him to third place, beating out teammate Sean Higgins who placed fourth (1:33.19).
Elise Tefre won the women's slalom with a time of 1:38.33 and had the two fastest runs of the day to lead the Catamounts. Kate Ryley was third overall with a time of 1:38.97 and Amanda McDonald posted a top-10 finish with a time of 1:41.39.
Fritz Horst lead UVM in the men's 20K classic races, finishing sixth with a time of 59:31.1. Dylan Grald also finished in the top-15 with a time of 59:59.9.
There will be a make-up giant slalom race of the UNH Carnival tomorrow (Feb. 12) at Burke Mountain in Vermont.
The next stop on the EISA Circuit is the Williams Carnival on February 17-18, 2012. The alpine races are scheduled for Jiminy Peak, while the Nordic races will be held at Breadloaf.
