St. Mike's Men Fall to Stonehill 75-53

Purple Knights are now 3-5 overall and 3-2 in NE-10 Play

COLCHESTER - Facing the stingiest defense in the Northeast-10 Conference, the Saint Michael's College men's basketball team fell to Stonehill College, 75-53, on Saturday in the Ross Sports Center. The Purple Knights are now 3-5 overall and 3-2 in the league, scoring the exact number of points the Skyhawks yield on average, while the visitors improved to 5-1 and 4-1.

Freshman Corey Crawford (Dover, Del./The Phelps School) notched a season-high 13 points for the visitors, hitting a pair of three-pointers while dishing out two assists. Senior Tom Ward (Brighton, East Sussex, England/Saint Francis [N.Y.]) shot 4-of-6 from deep while totaling 12 points and five rebounds, while classmate Tyler Schilling (Excelsior, Minn./Minnetonka) had nine rebounds, including four offensive. Freshman James Cambronne (De Bary, Fla./The Winchendon School) notched nine points off the bench.

Stonehill shot 53.8 percent in the second half, including 6-for-10 on three-pointers. Senior Andre Tongo (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxboro Regional) knocked down three threes for 17 points, junior Brian Hamor (Guilderland, N.Y./Bishop Gibbons) hit a trio of triples for 15 points, and classmate Adam Fazzini (Drums, Pa./Crestwood) had three more threes off the bench while totaling 14 points. Senior Patrick Lee (Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) added 14 points and seven rebounds.

Hamor's triple 1:52 into the contest gave the Skyhawks a 5-0 advantage, but Ward knocked down a pair of treys to put the Purple Knights ahead, 7-5, at 15:34. From there, Stonehill scored nine straight points during a 2:59 stretch, with Fazzini scoring five points, and another Hamor three made it 19-8 by 8:04. Ward canned a third three-pointer on the next possession with 7:51 left, but the visitors scored 18 of the next 24 points to go up 20 and later led by a 37-22 count at halftime. Saint Michael's trailed by no fewer than 15 points during the second stanza.

The Purple Knights host Merrimack College on Tuesday for an NE-10 contest at 7:30 p.m.
