Green Knights Take Early 10 Point Lead ... Cruise to Win
Burlington --- The Rice Memorial High School Green Knights won their thirteenth straight game, roaring out to a 16-6 first quarter lead, and rolling on to a 49-27 win over their arch-rivals, the Burlington High Seahorses, in boy's basketball action on Monday night at the Patrick Gym.
The game, originally scheduled for Burlington's Buck Hard Gym, was moved to Patrick after water damage to the floor at Buck Hard.
Rice built their early lead on the play of juniors Casey Tipson and Marcus Willingham, who both tossed in six points in the game's first eight minutes. The lead grew to 25-11 at the half as Rice senior Jake Maynard contributed a pair of baskets and a couple of pretty assists before the break. Maynard then banged in seven of Rice's nine third quarter points as the Green Knights stretched the lead to 34-17 after three.
Maynard led all scorers in the game with 15 points. Willingham finished with nine, Tipson, had eight, and Tim Rensch chipped in seven for the Knights.
Griffin Rodgers and Stefan Radan each had six for the Seahorses.
Rice is now 13-1. Burlington slips to 4-9.
