Held to 12 points in 1st half Hornets roars past SB 50-34
Essex Jct --- Held to just twelve points in the first half the undefeated Essex girls basketball team roared out of the locker room, scoring 38 second half points and beating the winless South Burlington Rebels 50-34 on Monday night on Jean Robinson Court.
The first half was ugly on both sides, featuring poor shooting and numerous turnovers on both sides. South Burlington led 10-4 after the first quarter, before Essex rallied late in the second quarter to force a 12-12 tie at the half.
But the second half was a different story. Essex began the third quarter on a 13-3 run to open up a ten point lead and South Burlington never got closer than eight the rest of the way. Essex led by twelve 31-19 after three quarters, and outscored SB 19-15 in the fourth quarter to pull away to the win.
After a poor first half shooting the ball Essex's Kari Lavalette got it going in the second, nailing three three-pointers on route to a game high 13 points. Lauren Miles hit a pair of second half treys and finished with ten, while Kara Sheftic and Isey Esposito each chipped in seven.
Reilly Simoneau led South Burlington with 12.
With the win Essex is 7-0. South Burlington slips to 0-6.
