Middlebury Comes From Behind to Beat CVU 4-3
South Burlington --- The defending Division Two State hockey champion Middlebury Tigers have moved up to Division One this season, and they served notice Wednesday night that they plan on being a force. the Tigers rallied from three one goal deficits, then scored the game winning goal with 1:00 remaining to beat the defending Division One champion CVU Redhawks 4-3 at Cairns Arena.
Three times the Redhawks took a one goal lead ... three times Middlebury came back to tie. After Pat Keelan gave the Redhawks a 1-0 lead 1:54 into the game Tiger captain Colin Babcock buried the tying goal at 11:43. After CVU notched the only goal of the second, Keelan's second of the night at 9:43, Middlebury's Sawyer Hescock notched the equalizer at 2:35 of the third. Again the Redhawks grabbed the lead, as Keelan set up Brendan Gannon at 4:59. But Sawyer McLaughlin tied it for the Tigers three and half minutes later.
It came down to the final minute of the third, and Babcock came up with the big play, stealing the puck from a CVU defender and feeding Tim Shea, whose shot beat Redhawk goalltender Jason O'Brien with exactly one minute to play.
Middlebury goaltender Nick Bruch made 23 saves in the win. O'Brien came up with 21 stops for CVU. With the win the Tigers are 3-0 on the season. CVU is now 3-2.
