Second Period Explosion Sends Rebels Past Green Knights

SB scores five on route to 8-4 win over Rice

South Burlington --- The South Burlington Rebels exploded for five goals in the second period on Wednesday night, roaring past the Rice Green Knights in boys hockey action at Cairns Arena.

Trailing 2-1 after one the Rebels tied the game at two on Eric Craig's second goal of the game at 2:27 of the second. They took the lead for good on Matt Baechle's goal 24 seconds later. Bernie Thibeault's unassisted powerplay goal followed at 6:05, before Craig notched his third of the night at 8:29 and Nick Konstantonis finished off the carnage at 12:46.

Rice tried to climb back into the game five minutes into the third, as Cole Zweber and Kyle O'Grady scored a minute and twenty-nine seconds apart to cut the margin to 6-4. But a powerplay goal from Baechle and a final marker from Ryan Leonard re-established the  Rebels'four goal margin.

Anthony Philip and Caleb Connerty notched first period goals for the Green Knights, sandwiched around Craig's first score of the night for SB.

With the win South Burlington is now 3-1. Rice slips to 1-3.
