Middlebury gets three goals from Katie Sullivan in a 6-0 win

WATERVILLE, Maine --- A day after going to overtime for a victory over Colby College, the third-ranked Middlebury College women's hockey team received three goals from Katie Sullivan (Bethesda, Md.) and three assists by Maria Bourdeau (West Hartford, Conn.) in a 6-0 New England Small College Athletic Conference win Saturday at Alfond Rink.
Middlebury, which took a 3-2 overtime win over the Mules on Friday night, improves to 2-0 overall and 2-0 in the conference. The Mules are 0-2 overall and 0-2 in the league.
Sullivan scored what ended up as the game-winning goal just 2:33 into the first period off an assist from Bourdeau.
The Panthers, who received 22 saves from Annabelle Jones (Homer, N.Y.) in her first collegiate shutout in her first game, went up 2-0 after the first period on Madeline Joyce's goal at 11:13 off passes from Heather Marrison (Brewster, N.Y.) and Maggie Melberg (Woody Creek, Colo.).
Middlebury scored three goals in a span of about six minutes in the second period to pull away. Madison Styrbicki (Edina, Minn.) tallied at 8:35, Melberg made it 4-0 at 10:59, and Sullivan scored her second goal at 14:01. Sullivan closed out the scoring in the third period with an unassisted goal at 15:18. Emily Fluke (Sandwich, Mass.) had two assists in the game.
Brianne Wheeler (Brussels, Ontario) made 30 saves in net for Colby.
