SOUTH BURLINGTON - In the rematch of last year's Northeast-10 Conference Tournament championship game, the Saint Michael's College men's ice hockey team tied Saint Anselm College, 2-2, on Friday at Cairns Arena. The Purple Knights erased a pair of one-goal deficits in the third period.

Saint Michael's is now 1-2-1 overall, 1-1-1 in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) East and 0-0-1 in the NE-10. The Hawks are 2-2-1, 2-2-1 and 0-0-1.

For the Purple Knights, junior Michael Jangro (Reading, Mass./Valley Jr. Warriors) tallied a goal and an assist, while sophomore Ryan Arsenault (Reading, Mass./New Hampton School) also scored. Junior Rich Rodeschini (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./Canterbury School) assisted both goals. Junior goalie Mike Dizgun (Kirkland, Quebec/OCN Blizzard) made 44 saves, including stopping a penalty shot in the second period and playing a major role in the hosts keeping Saint Anselm off the board during a two-man disadvantage in overtime.

For the Hawks, senior Ryan Holley (Owings, Md./Washington Junior National) and freshman Johnny Daniels (Andover, Mass./Valley Junior Warriors) scored a goal apiece while sophomore goalie Nick Dries (Commerce Township, Mich./BS Breakers) stopped 13 shots.

In overtime, Saint Michael's killed a 5-on-3 Saint Anselm power play, and Dizgun once again shut down the Hawks, stopping two consecutive shots in the final 30 seconds of the contest.

The first period remained scoreless with Dizgun turning away 17 shots to keep the Hawks off the scoreboard. Dizgun made a number of big saves, including stopping three consecutive shots in a span of 16 seconds with a little less than seven minutes left on clock. Nearly midway through the second period, Dizgun once again stepped up, turning away a penalty shot 9:01 into the stanza. With 2:51 left, Daniels converted, facing Dizgun in a one-on-one and sending the puck into the back of the net.

Just 5:35 into the third period, the Purple Knights netted their first goal of the contest when Jangro's initial shot hit the post and Arsenault picked up the rebound, sending it past Dries. The Hawks answered back 3:08 later when Holley scored an unassisted goal. Jangro netted the final goal of the contest with 3:18 left in regulation, and Dizgun made a diving save with 47 seconds left on the clock to bring the two teams into overtime.
