Norwich Women Drop Castleton 4-0

RUTLAND - Junior Katharyn Dembowski was outstanding in net but the Castleton State Spartans couldn’t fully contain the potent Cadet offense as they fell 4-0 to Norwich on Friday afternoon at Spartan Arena.

Dembowski stopped at least 15 shots in each period, finishing the contest with an astounding 49 saves between the pipes. Castleton, meanwhile, managed only six shots on Norwich sophomore goaltender Joanie Plamondon.

The Cadets struck just 8:46 into contest, as Sarianne Lynn  fed freshman Kaycie Anderson for the score in front of the net. Norwich added to their lead 2:29 later as Melissa Rundlett found the back of the net on the rebound of a shot by sophomore Kayla Lascelle.

In the second period Norwich struck twice. Freshman Tyne Gove  scored the first goal 9:15 into the period with assists from Jillayne DeBus and Anderson. At the 12:55 mark of the period it was Renee Lortie recording her first goal of the game off nice passing by Brittany Sharman and Lynn.

Dembowski and the Spartan defense held strong over the final 20 minutes, shutting down the Norwich offense.

The Cadets improve to 2-1 on the season with the victory while Castleton falls to 0-3 on the season.
