Green Knights End Slide With 2-1 Win Over CVU

Freshmen Nestor and Philip net goals ... Koupash makes 23 saves

South Burlington --- Freshmen Sam Nestor and Anthony Philip each scored a goal and junior goaltender Ian Koupash stopped 23 shot as the Rice Green Knights ended a four game losing streak with a 2-1 win over the CVU Redhawks on Wednesday night at Cairns Arena.

Nestor gave the Green Knights a 1-0 lead, beating CVU senior goaltender Jason O'Brien on his own rebound at the 7:48 mark of the first period. Philips doubled the margin at 6:55 of the second, finishing off a two on one break with winger Alex Morse by throwing a backhander past O'Brien and just under the crossbar.

CVU responded just under three minutes later when sophomore Brendan Gannon picked up the rebound of a point shot by sophomore defenseman Alex Bulla and slipped it past Koupash to cut the lead to 2-1, but the Redhawks would get no closer.

O'Brien made 21 saves in the loss as the Redhawks outshot the Green Knights 24-23.

With the win Rice, losers of seven of their previous eight games, improved their record to 6-13. CVU slips to 7-11-1.
