Men's Hockey: Saint Michael’s Falls to Skidmore in ECAC East Action

9-1 loss drops Knights 6-14-2 overall and 3-12-1 in the league

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - The Saint Michael's College men's ice hockey team dropped an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) East contest on Saturday to Skidmore College, 9-1, at the Saratoga Springs Ice Rink. The Purple Knights drop to 6-14-2 overall and 3-12-1 in the league, while the Thoroughbreds are 10-11-2 and 9-7. Skidmore knocked off No. 1 Norwich University, 3-2, on Friday, handing the Cadets their second loss.
 
Junior Connor Logan (Shelburne, Vt./Green Mountain Glades) tallied the lone goal for the Purple Knights, while classmate Mike Dizgun (Kirkland, Quebec/OCN Blizzard) stopped nine shots. Junior Eric McGuirk (Rehoboth, Mass./Bridgewater Bandits) made 17 saves in relief.
 
Sophomore Tony Giacin (Saint Louis, Mo./Iowa Outlaws) led the Thoroughbreds with two tallies and two helpers, while classmate Vlad Gavrik (Kharkiv, Ukraine/Hebron Academy) and freshman David Limoges (Saint-Hippolyte, Quebec/Albany Academy) each scored two goals. Junior Julian Malakorn (Warwick, R.I./Pomfret) and sophomore Dave Dupuis (Kuujjuaq, Quebec/Kent School) finished with three assists apiece, and senior Colin Bessey (Montclair, N.J./Trinity-Pawling) earned the victory with 14 saves in two periods.
 
The Thoroughbreds took a 3-0 lead after one period before tallying twice in the first 2:56 of the second. Three more Skidmore markers came in a 3:09 span later in the period before Logan got the Purple Knights on the board during a power play with 16 seconds left. Juniors Tim McAuliffe (North Reading, Mass./Vermont Academy) and Rich Rodeschini (Katonah, N.Y./Canterbury School) earned assists on the play.
 
Gavrik tacked on a third-period goal, as Saint Michael's yielded only seven shots in the final stanza.
 
The Purple Knights return to action on Tuesday when they start a regular-season-ending three-game homestand with a Northeast-10 Conference match-up against Stonehill College at 5:50 p.m.
