Yanchek Wins 40th Career Game

WATERVILLE, Maine --- John Yanchek (Hillsborough, N.J.) earned his 40th career victory with 19 saves as the Middlebury College men's hockey team fought back from an early 1-0 deficit on the way to a 3-1 win over Colby College in New England Small College Athletic Conference play Friday night at Alfond Rink.

Middlebury moved to 7-5-2 overall and 6-3 in NESCAC play, while the Mules fell to 3-12 overall and 1-10 in the league.

 

The Mules jumped out quickly when Mike Doherty (Lynnfield, Mass.) scored his seventh goal of the season at 2:46 from co-captain Dan Nelson (Northbrook, Ill.).

 

Middlebury's Nick Resor (Westwood, Mass.) tied the game at 1-1 at 13:15 on the power play for the Panthers.

 

Middlebury went ahead for good on another power play goal at 17:54 off assists from George Ordway (Long Lake, Minn.) and Trevor Pollock (Sunderland, Vt.).

 

Resor closed out the scoring at 2:04 of the third period for the Panthers from Chris Steele (Revere, Mass.) and Louis Belisle (Repentigny, Quebec).

 

Jordan Nathan (Upper Saddle River, NJ) made 23 saves for Colby.
