Vikings hold of Rangers for win

Lyndon Institute took a 2-0 first half lead, then held off a late charge by the Lake Region Rangers to earn their first win of the season, 3-2.

Silas Soleymani opened the scoring for the Vikings before Jake Solomon notched a goal to make it 2-0 in favor of the Vikings, who dominated play in the opening half.

“I thought our front group, Silas [Soleymani], Travis [Wilkinson] and Billy [William Wright] played exceptional today. We had exceptional passing up front, especially in the first half,” LI coach Clay Bailey said. “I think the reason we won this game was because of the effort up front.”

Lyndon continued to control play to open the second half. “I thought they controlled 60 out of the 80 minutes of the match,” Lake Region coach Tom Evans said of the Vikings. “We made some defensive mistakes and they finished them off.”

The Regions took advantage of two second half penalty kicks but Soleymani's second goal of the contest proved to be the game-winner as the late surge by Lake Region was held off by the Vikings, behind solid goaltending by Ben Nichols.

The win is the first of the season for the new Division I squad, Lyndon, who improves to 1-2.
