Fair Haven Surges Past Burr & Burton 57-34 in VPA Division II Championship

CASTLETON, Vt. - Fair Haven’s offense couldn’t be contained on Saturday evening as they totaled over 500 yards of total offense on the way to a 57-34 victory over Burr & Burton at Spartan Stadium to claim the school's first Division III state championship since 2001.

Senior Robert Coloutti was the architect of the Slater offense, slicing through the Bulldogs defense for a team-high 141 rushing yards and three scores. He also added 147 yards through the air tossed a pair of touchdowns. Tailback Austin Amery was also vital to the Fair Haven attack, rushing for 135 yards and two touchdowns.

The first quarter was relatively calm as Fair Haven held a slight 8-7 advantage after the first 13 minutes. The Bulldogs flexed their muscles in the second quarter out-scoring Burr & Burton 22-7 in the period. The final two scores came in the final three minutes on touchdown passes by Coloutti of 65 and 71 yards to Dakota Euber and Levi Ellis.

The Bulldogs tried to climb back in it in the second half but just traded touchdowns for the remainder of the game. Brady Murtagh had the most impressive run of the night for Burr & Burton, going 63 yards midway through the third quarter.

Murtagh finished with a team-high 88 yards and two touchdowns to lead the rushing attack. Junior quarterback Jake Stalcup was 19-for-41 through the air for 293 yards and a pair of touchdowns. His main target was Eamon Walsh, who caught eight passes for 151 yards and one score. Senior Bryan Wilkins was everywhere on defense for the Bulldogs totally an impressive 17 tackles.

With the win Fair Haven clinches its 12th state championship and finishes with a 9-2 record. Burr & Burton finishes its season with a 7-4 after reaching its first-ever Division II championship.
