Hurricanes never trail and outscore Tigers 28-0 in the second half

CASTLETON, Vt. - The Hartford Hurricanes never trailed and outscored Middlebury 28-0 in the second half on their way to a 42-6 victory over the Tigers and their second straight Division I state championship at Spartan Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Hartford held Middlebury without an offensive touchdown and allowed the Tigers just 88 yards of total offense. Conversely, the Hurricanes gained 444 yards of total offense, including 362 on the ground. Seniors Troy Bell and Miles Latham both went over 100 yards, as Bell finished with 109 yards on 11 carries with a touchdown while Latham added 102 on 18 rushes and two scores.
The state championship is the second straight for the Hurricanes and their fourth in the last five years. They finish the season with a perfect 11-0 record while Middlebury drops to 9-2.
Hartford got on the board 7:03 into the first quarter and then made 14-0 as Tucker Stone connected with Travis Wilson for a 38-yard touchdown pass.
On the ensuing kickoff, Marshall Hastings took the ball back 79 yards to the house to cut the lead to 14-6. The extra point attempt went wide and the two teams went into the half locked in a 14-6 battle.
The Hurricanes marched four plays in 60 yards to open the second half, the last 55 of which came on a run by Bell. Just over five minutes later it was Latham who went in from six yards out.
Latham added a two-yard run with 11:38 remaining in the game to push the lead to 35-6. Stone capped off the scoring with just 1:48 left, intercepting a Tyler Provencher pass and returning it 36 yards for the touchdown.
Provencher finished 3-for-7 for 61 yards and two picks. He also led the Tigers’ rushing attack with 25 yards on ten carries. Mitchell Clarke finished with a game-high 13 tackles for Middlebury in the loss.
Bobby Annis led Hartford with nine tackles including 2.5 for a loss.
