Saffo's Big Night Leads BFA to 41-18 Win Over Essex

Junior Back Rushes for 346 yards and 3 Touchdowns

Essex - Junior running back Doug Saffo ran for 346 yards and scored three touchdowns Friday night as the BFA-St. Albans Bobwhites won their fifth straight game, rolling past the Essex Hornets 41-18 at rainy Essex Field.

Saffo had a huge first half, breaking three big runs,  leading to touchdowns for fullback Sam Rose (nine and one yards) and quarterback Nick Jaslowich (nine yards). He then capped the half with a 38 yarder of his own, giving BFA a 28-6 lead at the break. The junior then broke BFA's first play from scrimmage in the second half, taking it eighty yards to the house for a 35-6 lead, and scored on a five yard run later in the quarter to give them a 41-12 lead after three.

Essex junior quarterback Joey Picard threw for all three Hornet scores, passing 40 yards to Matt Mulcahy in the second quarter, three yards to Trevor Yandow in the third quarter, and eight yards to Bobby Evans in the fourth quarter. Essex running back Derek McAdoo ran for 91 yards on 14 carries in the loss.

With the win BFA retains the top spot in the Division One QPR rankings, improving their record to 6-1. The loss drops Essex to 2-5, and eliminates the Hornets from the playoff hunt.
