The Lyndon Institute Vikings provided the first round of fireworks but they fizzled out quickly and could do very little but watch as the undefeated Falcons of North Country put on an unforgettable show in the 'Barrel Bowl' game.
Lyndon opened the game on a Zach Weisinger 81-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to take the early lead but it was almost all North Country from that point as they went on to dismantle the visiting Vikings, 62-22, in front of a packed house at Veteran's Field.
Nick LeClair put the home team on the board with 9:44 to play in the first quarter when he broke open on a 49-yard touchdown scamper. LeClair then caught the two point conversion from quarterback Tre Sanville and North Country had a lead they would never surrender.
LeClair added another first quarter touchdown as the Falcons took a 16-6 lead into the second quarter. LeClair, however, was far from done. He piled on 173 yards on the night and reached paydirt four times. As a team the Falcons rushed for 364 yards.
After LeClair's third touchdown the Vikings offense got going, eventually reaching the endzone when James Shufelt called his own number and carried it in from seven yards out. Things, though, got ugly from there for LI fans.
North Country tallied one more first half score to make it 32-14 at the intermission but opened the game wide open by scoring two touchdowns in the third quarter, and two more unanswered in the fourth to increase the lead to 62-14.
Jason Haton reeled in a 35-yard touchdown pass from Jacob Buckles on a halfback pass to close out the first half scoring. Adam Pothier opened the third quarter scoring with a one yard plunge with 6:21 to play in the third and LeClair's fourth touchdown came on a nine yard run. Sanville called his own number for a seven yard scoring 30 seconds into the fourth quarter before Pothier closed the Falcons' scoring parade with his second touchdown of the contest, this one from six yards out.
Lyndon found paydirt with 2:29 left when James Shufelt hit Kyle Cippollone with a 32-yard touchdown pass. Shufelt completed two of four passes on the night with both receptions going to Cippollone, who finished the day with 51 receiving yards. Shufelt also had 79 rushing yards.
Craig St. Hilaire had a quiet 132 yards on the ground for the Vikings, a performance hugely overshadowed by the impressive performance by LeClair. Pothier also carried for 80 yards from the fullback position for North Country, who improves to 5-0 on the year.
Lyndon falls to 3-2.
