Hartford, Milton, Windsor lead the way

Week four of Vermont high school football is in the books and Div. I is still an impressive race. Three teams remain unbeaten while two others sit at 3-1. Two remain unblemished in Div. II while everyone in Div. III has taken a loss.

The battle for one of the eight playoff spots available in Div. I is led by Hartford. They are 4-0, along with Middlebury and CVU, but the Hurricanes lead the group with a QPR of 6.50. Both Middlebury and CVU have a QPR of 6.00 and their week 8 matchup could be an interesting one. BFA St. Albans currently holds four place with a 3-1 record (5.50 QPR). In the new Div. I alignment, eight teams will claim playoff berths in the division so South Burlington, Rutland, Colchester and St. Johnsbury find themselves in playoff spots after four weeks. Brattleboro is the first team on the outside, in ninth place, but they will have their chance to change that on Saturday when they travel to face St. Johnsbury.

Div. II is led by Milton (4-0, 5.333) and North Country (4-0, 4.556), while three teams sit at 3-1. Fair Haven is currently the team on the outside looking in. They sit at 3-1 (2.556) while Burr and Burton (3-1, 3.11 and LI (3-1, 2.778) round out the top four. Big games are scheduled this week in Div. II as Fair Haven hosts Burr and Burton and North Country hosts Lyndon Institute. Week five is sure to shake up the division so keep your eye out.

BFA Fairfax is the only team with more than one loss to find a way into the playoff picture through four weeks. The Bullets QPR is 2.222, ahead of Montpelier (3-1, 2.111) who currently is in the fourth spot in the division. Windsor leads the pack at 3-1 (3.00) while Mill River sits at 3-1 with a QPR of 2.778. Montpelier will have their chance to make a move up this weekend when they travel to take on the Yellowjackets of Windsor.
