10/23/2010 8:16 AM - The Rutland Raiders reeled off three fourth quarter touchdowns to overcome a one-point third quarter deficit and knock off host Essex, 35-14.
Essex scored with 30 seconds remaining in the third quarter on a 66 yard touchdown pass from Ryan Mitchell to Mike DiMambro and with Tyler Warren’s extra point, the Hornets were ahead, 14-13.
But the fourth quarter belonged to the Raiders.
Jon Sullivan scored a pair of rushing touchdowns with Troy Davine scoring between the two Sullivan strikes.
Davine put the Raiders on the scoreboard in the second quarter when he connected with Kyle Kelly on a 27 yard touchdown pass. Later in the second quarter Rutland extended their lead when Sullivan toted it into the endzone for six points from the seven yard line. Nate Swahn, who had his first extra point blocked, knocked this one through the uprights for a 13-0 Rutland lead.
Swarming back came the Hornets, however, in the third quarter. Mitchell and DiMambro connected on a 17 yard pass and catch for six to open the third quarter scoring before the two connected on the 66 yard strike that knotted the score.
The win keeps the Raiders playoff hopes alive as they jumble the Div. I mix with a 4-3 in-division record, while Essex falls to 4-2.
