Sea Dogs Split Opening Series

The Portland Sea Dogs (AA Red Sox) are 2-2 on the season after an

opening series @ Reading, PA. (Phillies).

The Dogs took the first two games by the scores of 5-0 and 4-1 with

the Fightin’ Phils gaining the series split by winning 3-2 and 4-3.

The highlight of the series was a six inning (rain shortened) no hitter

thrown by Sea Dogs lefty Henry Owens on opening night.

The highly touted prospect walked two and struck out nine.

Offense was provided by second basemen, Mookie Betts, who had 9

hits including a home run during the four games.

Starting catcher, Blake Swihart,played in three games hit .455 and

SS Deven Marrero batted .333.

Keith Couch got the other pitching win for Portland as he went 5 2/3

innings with no earned runs allowed.

The Sea Dogs travel to Trenton (Yankees) for three 7:05 starts before

returning to Portland for the home opener on April 10 @ 6:00 PM vs

the New Britain Rock Cats (Twins).

Bo Greenwell, son of former Red Sox OF Mike Greenwell, is a

reserve outfielder and Michael Brenly, son of MLB player / manager

Bob Brenly, will get playing time as a backup catcher.
