High School Football : Redhawks Defense Shuts Down Essex 20-0

by George Commo

ESSEX — The CVU Redhawks threw up a smothering defense on Friday night, holding the Essex Hornets to just two first downs on the night and shutting out the home team 20-0 on the Essex Field.

Using a huge size advantage on both sides of the ball,  CVU dominated the game physically from start to finish, harassing Essex quarterback Otis Crock and Essex’s stable of running backs while dominating the time of possession with a ball controlling ground it out offensive attack.

Three different running backs scored for the ‘Hawks  … Brad Reynolds on a 1 yard run early in the second quarter, Jacob Griggs on a two yard carry on the first play of the fourth quarter, and Braven Bose on a game clinching 1 yarder with just over two minutes remaining.

Meanwhile Griggs and Zach Toensing were the lead dogs on the defensive side.

With the win CVU is 4-0.  They have back to back shutouts in their last two starts.

The loss drops Essex to 2-2.
