George Commo’s Blog – Wednesday Afternoon 11-9-16

I have never turned my blog into a political forum and I’m not about to start doing that now, but I do have a couple of comments about yesterday’s election.

First off thank you to Burlington voters who approved the ballot items regarding our downtown … I spend a fair amount of my summers at the tourist booth on Church Street and really believe these changes that the voters agreed to yesterday will make for a much improved Queen City.

Secondly, with Phil Scott being elected Governor last night the question arises on the local racing scene … what becomes of the Governor elect’s racing career? Phil Scott has toured the high banks of Thunder Road and race tracks all over the region for more years than you can shake a shift stick at. So what now becomes of the #14 Late Model. Most people have been assuming that Scott will hangup the keys and put his racing career on hiatus while serving as Vermont’s Chief Executive.

But while appearing on the “Charlie, Ernie and Lisa Show” this morning on WVMT radio, Scott intimated that he has not yet decided what he is going to do with his race cars. I for one think he should keep on racing … maybe not every Thursday night as he has in the past, but an occasional event at T-Road or another nearby venue.  If other governors can slip away to play golf or whatever, why shouldn’t Scott be able to keep a hand in something he really enjoys.

I mean how great would it be for the Governor to be driving in the Governor’s Cup?
