We are into the eye of the Hurricane … after weeks of constant sports action … games every night … lots of scores to report every morning … I went to put together my morning sports report this morning and realized there really wasn’t much to put in it. UVM women’s lacrosse lost to Syracuse yesterday 19-7. That was it.
Now things will certainly pick up this weekend … lots of college tournament action in hockey and basketball … along with the annual Essex Rotary High School All Star Boy’s Hockey Classic (the Girls game was last weekend but there was so much else going on no one noticed).
But before this weekend things just seems dead, and I suddenly realized why.
This is the week when we would normally be following the early season efforts of the UVM Baseball Team on their annual spring trip down South. Not this year though … baseball at UVM is gone. Things have been so busy up until now that we haven’t had time to think about it, but there are no stories coming in about the Cats swinging the bats under the Florida sun. I’m going to miss that.
I’m going to miss heading over to Centennial Field on that first day with a littlle bit of warmth to it … that first day when you realize that spring really is coming … to watch the Catamounts play ball.
The decision came months ago … its not news anymore … its an old story … but for me as a reporter and a fan, only now is the pain setting in |
