The old geezer Celtics gave it a heck of a run yesterday against the Lakers. All star (finally) Rajon Rondo was great too. But the bottom line was this. They lost! Again! I know it is still a ways away, but I’m sorry gang, but I just don’t see this crew going very far in the second season.
The ultimate word on the Pro Bowl is this … I didn’t watch it. Watch it? I didn’t even think about it. I’m not addicted to the NFL like some guys are but I watch all the big games … I’m anxiously awaiting next week’s Colts/Saints showdown. But the Pro Bowl? Never even thought of it.
Here is my thought on this game that no one cares about and no big player seems to want to play in. The whole concept needs a complete over haul.
With the NFL coming up on negotiations on a new collective bargaining agreement, why not build a new Pro Bowl into the deal.
Play the game in the spring … say sometime in March or April … and in exchange for some carrot you give the players association you make participation mandatory for all players chosen except those with SERIOUS (Wes Welker) type injuries. Then take the game overseas. Play it in Europe, or Asia or Africa and use it as your annual international demonstration project to showcase the league.
Yea, you are probably right, no one here would watch, but hey, no one here is watching now anyway so what difference would it make?
Who says there aren’t any block buster trades anymore? Did you notice the two deals that Brian Burke swung yesterday. The Toronto Maple Leafs GM moved out six players in one afternoons, and brought in a couple of big names. In the first deal Burke sent Ian White, Matt Stajan, Nicholas Hagman and Jamal Mayers to Calgary for Dion Phaneuf, Keith Aulie and Fredrik Sjostrom. Then he swapped goaltender Vesa Toskola and forward Jason Blake to Anaheim for goalie Jean Sebastien Giguere.
Two big time players, Phaneuf and Giguere end up in Toronto … and with so many forwards leaving town don’t be surprised if some young talent down on the farm … perhaps including Viktor Stalberg … get called back to the big club.
